Week 1 – Industry Basics
 

  • Roles: Carrier, Broker, Shipper

  • MC vs. DOT – regulatory differences

  • Carrier onboarding with brokers (W-9, COI, NOA, references)

  • Load cycle: lead → booking → pickup → delivery → billing

  • Practice: FMCSA status check, broker setup packet completion
     

Week 2 – Dispatching Documents
 

  • BOL, POD variations

  • PU/DEL procedures and appointment models

  • Rate confirmations & accessorial clauses

  • Dispatch sheets and status codes

  • Practice: Document annotation & dispatch sheet creation

  • Practice: Selecting the right equipment for specific scenarios

Week 4 - Equipment & Freight Types

Phase 2: Applied Skills (Weeks 5–8)

Goal: Develop technical knowledge for load planning and management.

Week 5 – Freight Security & Loading
 

  • Securement methods for van/flatbed

  • Live load/unload, drop & hook, multi-stop setups

  • Weight distribution & axle limits

  • Practice: Securement plan & damage prevention checklist
     

Week 6 – Regulatory Docs & Permits
 

  • Driver certificates (TSA, Hazmat, TWIC)

  • Compliance documents (CDL, Clearinghouse, DVIR)

  • Permits (Oversize/Overweight, trip, IRP plates)

  • Practice: Determine required permits/certificates per route
     

Week 7 – Logistics Math & KPIs
 

  • ETA calculations, HOS rules

  • Time zones, dwell time, TBD loads

  • Dispatch KPIs: on-time %, deadhead reduction

  • Practice: Multi-zone trip plan & rerouting exercise
     

Week 8 – Load Boards & Freight Matching
 

  • DAT, TruckStop, Sylectus overview

  • Lane research & seasonality

  • Red flags for double brokering

  • Negotiation & risk assessment

  • Practice: Load search & sample broker call simulation

Week 10 – Financials & Accessorials
 

  • Detention, layover, TONU, lumper fees

  • Claims 101 & OS&D handling

  • Factoring, quick pay, and billing flow

  • Practice: Complete invoice packet with accessorial claim
     

Week 11 – Communication & Professionalism
 

  • Daily dispatch workflow

  • Driver coordination & HOS scheduling

  • Broker etiquette & communication standards

  • Practice: Role-play calls and professional updates
     

Week 12 – Integrated Practice & Simulation
 

  • Connecting all modules into full-cycle dispatching
